Scuba mask
A scuba mask is a diver’s window to the underwater world of marine
life. It should be constructed with quality silicone, have an airtight
seal and have comfortable straps and fasteners. Masks come equipped
with 3-pane and 4-pane lens. The 3-pane lens has a single front lens
with side windows. A 4-pane mask is divided into two front pieces and
includes the left and right windows.
There are many styles of mask straps available today. One may favor
the factory issue strap on the scuba masks or desire to purchase additional
ones. Straps are available in single and double-strap designs. The single
strap wraps around the center of the back of one’s head while
the double strap allows one to fasten one around the upper part of the
head and the bottom strap on the lower part of the head.
When trying on scuba masks one will observe the plethora of different
shapes of the nose pockets. The nose pocket cushions and protects the
nose, ensures the scuba mask does not fog up during a dive and assists
in helping the diver maintain equalization. The size and shape of the
nose pocket should be comfortable, neither being too tight or too loose.
This will improve comfort and improve one’s ability to purge the
mask.
